Senate We’ve strengthened our ability to attract and retain high-quality educators and have ensured smaller class sizes, but we must continue to improve our public education system. We’ve invested in critical economic-growth initiatives to attract new jobs and enacted the state’s first earned income tax credit to help reduce child poverty, but we must continue to strengthen our overall economy. We’ve helped senior citizens gain access to more affordable prescription drugs and provided health coverage for additional uninsured children, but we must continue to make health care more accessible and affordable to all citizens. We’ve enacted landmark clean energy efficiency standards to help reduce pollution and invested to better protect our natural resources and lands for future generations, but we must do more to protect our environment. In sum, these reasons are why I’m running for re-election. While I’m generally pleased with the progress we have made, North Carolina can and must do more to help working families by continuing to improve and reform public education, strengthen the economy, improve affordable health care access, and protect our environment—all while remaining fiscally responsible. I thank the citizens of the 18th District for the faith they have placed in me, and I trust I can count on their continued support. |
