Hamm – Board of Education In order to be a successful servant for the citizens of Chatham County as a School Board Member, I first ask my Lord, Jesus Christ, to bless me with wisdom, strength, courage, and understanding of the awesome responsibility that comes with the position. Second, I ask for support of the parents, students, and community in working together to make our schools in Chatham County successful institutions of learning for every student. Third, and not least, I ask for the support of my family to undergird me as a School Board Member to boldly face the 21st century challenges of our ever changing and growing school system. BELIEFS: Put student’s needs first Treat all areas of the county equally Increase supplements for all staff Correct the salary schedules for support staff Improve signing bonuses for first year teachers Use existing space before building new schools Upgrade current facilities Allow the personnel to run the day-to-day operations of the school system School Board should concentrate on making, maintaining, and upgrading school policies and not micro-managing the county office or schools Encourage staff and community input from all areas of the county BACKGROUND: Retired educator from Chatham County Schools in 2007 28 years as a teacher, assistant principal, Principal, coach, and bus driver for CCS First grade teacher Pittsboro Elementary Assistant football coach Northwood Assistant Principal Siler City Elementary Principal Bonlee School Principal Pittsboro Elementary Lived in northern Chatham (Manns Chapel Road), Siler City, and Pittsboro since 1970 Northwood graduate as well as the rest of my family BS and MA from ECU UNC-CH Administration Certification Principal Executive Program Married 28 years to a CCS teacher Father of four daughters, 2 teach in CCS, 2 in college Part time Youth Director, First Baptist Church of Siler City Member Mt.
